Pastoral Letter 8th September 2024

Pastor Wai Leung Chung

When you read this pastoral letter, I believe I have completed my sixth move in my life. I was born and lived on Flower Market Road in Mongkok, Kowloon, then moved to Fa Yuen Street, and later to Kornhill Garden on Hong Kong Island. After getting married, I moved to Causeway Centre in Wanchai, and after buying property, I moved to Fortress Metro Tower. Later, I immigrated to Sydney and lived in a townhouse in Narwee. Now, I’ve moved into a house. Out of these six moves, only one was forced, while the others were voluntary.

One of the most important moves in the Bible happened to Abram (who became Abraham).

The LORD had said to Abram, "Go from your country, your people, and your father's household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you, I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.

- Genesis 12:1-4

Scripture records that the LORD God spoke directly to Abraham, commanding him to leave his country, people, and father's household and go to the land that God would show him. Despite being passive in the situation, Abraham, though already seventy-five years old, followed the LORD God's words and took action.

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.

- Hebrews 11:8

With faith in God, Abraham obeyed God's command and responded to His call, going to an unknown place. Because of his trust and obedience, God's promises to him -becoming a great nation, being blessed, his name becoming great, and all nations being blessed through him - were all fulfilled in Abraham, his descendants, and all nations.

Brothers and sisters, how great is our faith in God? Are we willing, like Abraham, to step out of our comfort zone and move on, even when we  do not know where we are going? May God grant us greater faith to respond to His commands and call.
